Once upon a time there was a little girl who had a very interesting family. Every morning when her mother went to work, this little girl and her sister were awaken by their Grandma Molly, who made their breakfast, dressed them for school, and shuffled them off to it on time. When they visited Grandma Donna, they toured the beach and the fair, ate tapioca pudding and chateaubriand, and watched back-to-back movies at the local theater.
The girls loved their grandmas, and spent many an hour with these ladies, doing all sorts of old-fashioned things they didn't even realize were "old-fashioned." They learned to sew and cook. They ironed hankies and hosted tea parties for callers. They watched Lawrence Welk, mastered Gin Rummy, and played dress-up with stockings and gaudy clip-on earrings.
When the little girl grew up, she found herself . . . analyzing e-commerce trends for a change-management consulting firm. However, she longed to do something more creative, something sweeter, something more in keeping with who she was and where she had come from. She got married, and planned a beautiful wedding all on her own. People had a great time, and started begging her for help with their own events. She had a bright idea. . . .
She opened a special-event business in southeast Portland, Oregon, where she could help girls plan their celebrations.. She named her new business "Ella" after her great-grandmother Marcella, in homage to all these fine ladies who give us all so much.
